The Broward County School Board is expected to vote today on a new sex-ed curriculum known as "Family Life and Human Sexuality".
The new curriculum would replace a nearly 10-year old program that to some is medically out of date.
The new program to be taught by science teachers, who will be trained during the summer, will be "age appropriate" and "medically" accurate". It will start with K-4 learning about anatomy and personal safety moving to grades 5-12 learning about everything from HPV and vaccines, dating violence, abstinence, sexting and social media to sexual orientation, gender identity and contraceptive options.
Parents who will have opt-out options for their children.
The curriculum, if passed, will be posted before the beginning of the 2014-15 school year.
